Course description

Successful negotiation is an important communication skill. This course serves as an introduction to best practice negotiations, providing an understanding of the importance of influence – striving for win/win solutions.

Please note that there is some use of role playing exercises in this course, to assist with developing your skills and strategies.



Training objectives

This course is designed for staff whose role involves the use of basic negotiation skills in dealing with members of the public, other organisations and colleagues.



Learning outcomes

By the end of the course you will have had the opportunity to:

  • consider the impact of your own interpersonal skills

  • identify the steps in effective negotiation

  • explore and practice negotiation techniques

  • consider the specific needs involved in telephone negotiations

  • identify traps that can prevent successful negotiations, and ways of overcoming these
